As some of you may have already heard I spent last weekend in the Black Hills of South Dakota. One of the many stops the husband and I took the kids to was Mount Rushmore.
Now I would like to think that I am as patriotic as the next guy. I not only love being an American but am proud of our country as well as our soldiers who continue to fight for our freedom. With that said I wonder if I'm the only one who has gotten goose bumps at the site (like a monument) or sound (like a song) of something Patriotic.
When I sat in the Amphitheatre at Mount Rushmore looking up at the sculpted faces on the mountain side I was in awe of the sheer amazement I felt. Perhaps it was because I was finally sharing it with my children that I felt such a strong sense of pride, but it was a pretty amazing feeling.
At about 9:30 the Park Ranger came on stage and presented a movie to all of us sitting there waiting patiently like a bunch of kids in Sunday School. The movie, probably only about 20 minutes in length was your garden variety documentary about our founding fathers, our country, people who shaped this country and those who played a pivitol part in what it is today.
Now yes, I know some might say we have things to be unhappy about, but I ask you, aren't we darn lucky too? This short movie, sitting in the shadow of one of the greatest monuments in our country sent chills down my spine and brought a small tear to my eye as I thought of just how amazing it all is.
My question for you is, have you ever had that moment. That chill down your spine/tear in your eye moment when you were so very proud to be a member of this very great country? Or if you are in another country, say Canada or the UK, have you had a similar moment?
Please leave a comment, I would love to hear what you have to say. Thank You!
