What is Love Knows No Boundaries all about?

Love Knows No Boundaries is a story about a love that forms between two people who meet when their widowed parents marry. Sean is older than Isabelle and tries to step into the shoes of her big brother. He does so rather successfully until she is older and begins to pursue him. Relentless in her pursuit he finally gives into her advances and into his own desires as well. After a night of passion Sean is overwhelmed with guilt over what he believes is taking advantage of the young and sweet Izzy. While she is an adult he can’t get past their age difference and his role as step brother. He pushes her away and into the arms of another man. A year passes and Sean is tired of his guilt and missing the only woman he’s ever loved. He goes after Izzy and vows to get her back. The other man in her life, Justin, is not ready to let her go though. Taking matters in his own hands, Justin commits an act that he is sure will bind Isabelle to him forever.

In this story, two questions remain throughout. Will Isabelle and Sean overcome their obstacles and find a way to be together? And will the acts of one man effectively ruin any chance they have at happiness?

That sounds like you've created a wonderful love story. How did you come up with the idea?

You know I’ve been asked this question before and I wish I had an answer. Sometimes I sit down to write a story with just the opening chapter in mind and wait for the story to tell itself. I wish I had a method to my madness that I could share with the readers, but unfortunately even I don’t know which way a story is going to go when I start it. I’m often just as surprised as the reader.

Welcome to Author Offerings. I am so happy to have you here today and to find out what your author offerings are. What is your latest offering?

My latest book is titled Love Knows No Boundaries.

Love Knows No Boundaries is a story about a love that forms between two people who meet when their widowed parents marry.

Is this your first author offering, or do you have other books the readers should know about?

I do have two other books currently released with Hearts on Fire Books. My debut novel, Sweet Redemption was released in March 2009 and Sweet Salvation, which is the sequel to Sweet Redemption, was released in June 2009. They both center on two former Navy SEALS who have had their own difficulties in life but find love with the right women. Of course I’ve thrown a bit of turmoil and suspense in the mix to keep it interesting.

What can we expect from you in the future, Nicole?

I have a tentative, late September release for a book titled Death Vengeance through Hearts on Fire Books. I also have a book coming out in November 2009 with Siren Bookstrand, titled Intimate Persuasions and another with Siren titled Sudden Devotion which does not have a tentative release date at this time.

Thank you for joining me. Is there anything else you'd like the readers to know?

Just that I love what I do. I love to write stories and bring the characters to life for the reader. I myself am an avid reader and know how exciting it can be when you feel like you know the characters and experience the same things they are feeling.

Nicole Morgan tells all about "Sudden Devotion"

Today I have romance author Nicole Morgan here for an author guest blog where you will find out more about how she came to write her novel, Sudden Devotion. She got in touch with me through my association with the e-publisher Wild Horse Press. She contacted me in hopes of scheduling an author interview, author guest blog as well as a book review for her romance novel, Sudden Devotion, which was supposed to be out on August 12 with Wild Horse Press but won't be since Nicole and Wild Horse Press have decided to amicably part ways. Remember to check out my interview with Nicole Morgan that I did on Monday, August 3. Now on to the author guest blog by Nicole.

* * * * * *

I first came up with the concept of Sudden Devotion when I read an article about voyeuristic tendencies. I know it sounds strange, but it made me think. Voyeurism is not as taboo as some people like to think it is. Some forms of voyeurism do not necessarily fall into the category of the average peeping tom. The article touched on how some couples today are using voyeurism as a way to spice up their love life. So, with that in mind I thought, what if a couple actually fell in love as a result of voyeurism?

This obviously is not the traditional way to tell a romance story, but in erotic romance I think it is best to adhere to the ‘no rules’ are the only rules policy. Erotic romance is supposed to, at least in my mind, excite, tease, entrance and even arouse the reader. That is why I wrote this story, with the full intention of making these characters actions both shocking and brazen. While many of us today have fantasies, how many of us truly act on them? So, I made sure that Mitch and Sara didn’t hold back, but rather embraced their sexuality.

I hope you enjoy Sudden Devotion, as I put my heart and soul into every character, every scene and every word.

Blurb:

Sudden Devotion by Nicole MorganSara is a shy woman who is inexperienced with men but finds herself torn between that shyness and her untapped sexuality that is bursting beneath the pressure of her lustful desires.

Mitch works with Sara and knows that office romances can go horribly wrong, but that doesn’t stop him from wanting her. Going ahead with his plan to seduce her, the couple soon find themselves thrown into an erotic game of pleasure.

Their rendezvous proves to be more than either of them had anticipated. After only a couple of days their relationship intensifies into a firestorm of passion and they begin to fall in love.

Claudia works with them both and is not happy when Mitch rejects her advances. Not willing to take no for an answer Claudia uses every form of manipulation to drive the couple apart.

Her plan works and Mitch and Sara’s future hangs in the balance over a betrayal that was fabricated by Claudia. Is their relationship strong enough to handle the betrayal that they believe to be true? Or will the thought of losing each other be the catalyst to mend their broken hearts and keep them together?

Interviewing Romance Author Nicole Morgan

Today I have romance author Nicole Morgan here for an author interview. Remember to come back on Thursday, July 16 to find out more about how she came to write her novel, Sudden Devotion and keep a look out for my review of the novel as well. Now on to the interview between me and Nicole.

* * * * * *

Phoebe Jordan: When did you know that writing romance was going to be the thing that you would do with your life? Which author inspired you to start writing romance?

Nicole MorganNicole Morgan: Well that is a 2 part answer. I first was inspired to start writing almost 20 years ago, when my main addictions at the time were Danielle Steele and Jackie Collins. But it wasn’t until 2008 that I decided to really buckle down and go for it. It was the first time I ever decided to put any of the romantic stories in my head down on paper.

Phoebe: Did you know what type of romance you wanted to write about or did you experiment with different genres before you chose the one that you felt was for you?

Nicole: I thought about writing a suspenseful romance, which I did, it had a lot of twists and turns, but the funny thing I realized when I started writing was that the erotic or sexy scenes came naturally to me. It’s actually harder for me to write those scenes without all of the steam.

Phoebe: What was the first fiction you ever wrote? And do you still have it with you?

Nicole: The first book I ever started to write was my first published book called, Sweet Redemption.

Phoebe: How much research do you have to do for your novels and does it take you a long time to gather that research?

Nicole: That’s a funny question. I’m probably the most disorganized person when it comes to my research. When I sit down to write my story I don’t always know ahead of time what research I will all need so I will have to research as I go, which isn’t the most efficient method, but that way I get exactly what I’m looking for while it’s fresh in my mind. For example in the book I’m writing now, Blessing in Disguise I wrote a sentence that said, “Yes, I’m at the corner of ________ and ________.” Until I have a chance to pull up a city map for the Hollywood/Los Angeles area I won’t be able to fill that in. I don’t like to make up the information if it is a well known place. I want the two streets I mention to actually intersect.

Phoebe: How did you come up with the concept for your novel, Sudden Devotion?

Nicole: I came up with the premise and starting ground for Sudden Devotion after reading an article about how some couples today are using voyeurism as a way to spice up their love life.

Phoebe: How do you come up with each of your characters for your novels? How do you choose their names out of so many names out there?

Nicole: I choose the characters personalities within the first chapter. Usually I get an idea and start writing it. It isn’t until the second chapter that I have an idea of the kind of person that they are. As far as the male names I like to choose names that I myself find as masculine and sexy names. You’ll never find a leading man in my books called Wilmer. As for the women I try to pick a name that can be pretty, but sometimes, when possible I like to mix up the spelling, to make it different. An example would be in my current work in progress, instead of using Holly, I chose Hollie.

Phoebe: Do you have a favorite character that you really enjoyed writing about in your novel, Sudden Devotion? Did you have a character that you felt you could really relate to in your novel, Sudden Devotion?

Nicole: I would say I really enjoyed writing about Sara. She seemed real to me. Throughout the book she struggles with a mixture of emotions, just like many women do. Still inexperienced with men she is forced to face her new found sexuality, her insecurities and her love and devotion for Mitch. Surprisingly I actually relate to her the most also. While my husband and I have been together and married for a long time I can’t help but remember that I was a bit shy and insecure when he ‘moved in for the kill’ so to speak all those yeas ago and turned me into the kind of gal that writes erotic romance.

Phoebe: Do you have a process of how you start to write your novels?

Nicole: I do things probably a lot differently than other authors. I get an idea in my head about a couple and how they might meet or what might bring them together. Then I sit down and literally start writing the characters and scenes until my idea comes to life.

Phoebe: Have you ever considered writing a series or are writing stand alone novels your preference? How would writing each be different for you?

Nicole: I have already written a two book series, Sweet Redemption and Sweet Salvation. Also, I am currently in the middle of a series titled Intimate Temptations. The first book is complete and with Siren Bookstrand for editing and is called Intimate Persuasions and the second book titled Intimate Desires is still a work in progress. I still enjoy writing the stand alone books just as much though.

Phoebe: What process did you have to go through to get your first book published and did it take you long?

Nicole: When I completed my first book I read though it a couple of times for editing and to make sure that it flowed, then I realized I was putting it off because I was afraid to send it off. So my husband finally put his foot down and told me that if I wanted anyone else to have the chance to read it I needed to ‘get my butt in gear’ and submit it. I began submissions in early February and a couple of weeks later I was offered my first contract.

Phoebe: Do you ever get writers block? What do you do to get rid of it so you can get back to writing your novels?

Nicole: I don’t get it too often, but when I do I usually just put it aside and work on something else. I know that eventually it will come to me so I try not to let it get to me. The main reason I don’t get it too often is because if I am ‘blocked’ and am not sure where to take the story next, I just write whatever pops into my head anyway, sometimes it doesn’t flow or work and then I have to go back and change things, but actually I’ve gotten some pretty good scenes from just writing aimlessly with no plan.

Phoebe: What is your biggest reader pet peeve, if you have any? (stock characters, unresolved endings, predictability, everything wrapped up hurriedly in the end, etc.)

Nicole: My biggest pet peeve is predictability. I have read tons of books where you can tell by the second chapter exactly how everything is going to play out. It’s disappointing. The story might be well told, but I want to enjoy the story and be surprised. It’s hard to do that when you know exactly what’s going to happen.

Phoebe: Which aspects of writing do you enjoy the most and why? And what is your biggest writing pet peeve? (overuse of exclamation points, adverbs, bad guys named Wayne, etc.), if you have any?

Nicole: The thing I enjoy most about writing is making the characters emotions come to life. One reader told me once that she cried after reading a scene from my book Love Knows No Boundaries. Which in turn made me cry, because that’s what I want, I want the reader to feel the same emotions that the character is. My biggest pet peeve in writing, which I’m suffering through right now, is in coming up with a synopsis. Sometimes it is hard to condense 350 pages into 100 words or less and still have it jump out and grab at the reader.

Phoebe: What is the one writing tool can you not live without?

Nicole: I would die if I did not have an online thesaurus/dictionary!

Phoebe: How do you handle your writing schedule and your personal life without going insane?

Nicole: Who says I’m not insane? Seriously though, it is actually very hard at times. It basically translates into a lot of missed sleep and a very understanding husband and two kids. The dogs aren’t very understanding at all though. One sits on my feet (yes on, not near) and the other one nudges my hand as I type. They’re spoiled and get lonely when mommy doesn’t give them attention.

Phoebe: What do you do to relax after having spent a long while writing? Do you have any hobbies?

Nicole: What I love to do is have a long hot bubble bath. If I’ve been really good I treat myself to a manicure and pedicure though.

Phoebe: Is there any advice that you would give to an aspiring romance writer that you wish someone had given you?

Nicole: Yes there is. Just try! It can’t hurt and even if you don’t get published the first time you might get some really good tips and constructive criticism. I myself still seek out any tips anyone is willing to give me.

Phoebe: Is there any writing tips, research tips, promotion and marketing tips that you would give to an aspiring romance writer that you wish someone had given you?

Sudden Devotion by Nicole MorganNicole: In writing make sure that your story flows for the reader. Just because you can see it in your head does not mean that the reader can. So, describe and explain all aspects of what you are trying to say. As far as research tips go I think it is important to be accurate, no matter how small the detail. If you’re not willing to research a topic, then do not write about it. This can annoy and bother readers. In regards to promotion and marketing I have a few tips, first remember that it is important to get your name out there, so join groups and chat along with others. You’ll actually find you meet some pretty neat and talented people. In these groups make sure you always follow the rules and promote your work accordingly. No one likes a rule breaker. Second, make sure your emails are friendly or even fun. I myself receive emails from people that are short and abrupt. While this may not be intentional remember that a tone of an email sets the tone for the communication. Lastly before you spend any money take a look at all of the free promoting opportunities there are out there in cyber land. There are a lot to choose from.

Phoebe: Do you have a favorite genre you like to read? Who is your favorite author(s)?

Nicole: My favorite genre is erotic romance. While I enjoy some less erotic romance novels erotica is my favorite. I can’t choose a single favorite because I like these authors for different reasons, but here they are: Maya Banks, Sasha White, Lora Leigh, Stella Cameron, Joann Ross and most recently I’ve added Beth Kerry to the mix.

Phoebe: What are you reading now? And what do you plan to read after that?

Nicole: I am eagerly trying to finish Beth Kerry’s Wicked Burn. So far it has been an awesome read! After I am finished I am going to start reading Joann Ross’ Breakpoint. It was just released in July and I am a huge fan of hers. I’ve been waiting for this one to be released for months.

Browler Books Interview                                                     www.browlerbooks.com

How long have you been writing?
I have only been writing a little over a year.  I started my first book in the Spring of 2008 and it is currently stuck on Chapter 4.  I was super excited when I began writing it, but I fell victim to the proverbial "writer's block."  The story just stopped flowing for me.  So, rather than punish myself any longer I decided to hit the save button until I was reinspired and started on my next book, Sweet Redemption.

How many novels do you have published?

I have three books that either have been or are in the process of being published.  The first book I completed, Sweet Redemption was published by Hearts on Fire Books in eBook format, with the paperback coming out soon.  The sequel to Sweet Redemption, titled, Sweet Salvation is in the editing process with Hearts on Fire Books.  There is no date yet as when it will be released, so watch for it.

I also have a book, Sudden Devotion which is still in the editing process through Wild Horse Press.  The release date on that is August 11, 2009.

In addition to those, I have just completed my fourth book, which I do not have a title for yet.  I still have some editing work to do on it myself, but hope to be done soon.

What's the hardest thing about writing a novel?

For me I would have to say the hardest thing is finding new and inventive ways to describe the raw emotions the characters are going through.  No matter what the subject matter of my books there is always some sort of underlying heartbreak or devastation that cuts deep to the character's soul.  While I am a firm believer in Happily Ever After stories, I also like to give the characters obstacles to overcome.  So while there are many adjectives out there to help a writer tell his/her story they aren't worth much if the author can't find a way to make the reader connect with the character and feel the same sensations and emotions that the character is experiencing at that very moment.

What do you love the most about it?

Gosh, I think the easier question would be, What don't I love about it?  When I have an idea for a story and sit down at my computer I start with something small.  I never know what is going to happen next, until I'm typing it.  The story unfolds to me the same way it would a reader.  I get just as much enjoyment as the story unfolds while I'm typing as I would if I was curled up with a good book in a quiet room with a glass of wine.

I guess to summarize I would say I love inventing characters and finding obstacles for them to overcome.  Most of my stories have some sort of a villan in them, in one form or another.  So, I like giving my characters the opportunity to hurdle all of the bad luck that gets thrown their way, so that they can have that Happily Ever After.

When did you first have an interest in writing?

I actually have always enjoyed writing, in one form or another.  It was the one subject in school that I always not only excelled in but truly enjoyed.  Just ask my two daughters.  I get a little too excited whenever they have a big Language Arts project due.  They get more than a bit irritated with me at my overzealousness.

Do you have any advice for aspiring authors out there?

Coincidentally enough I had a friend ask me for some advice just this week.  She is interested in writing a biography on her Grandparents life.  How they met, fell in love, what they had to endure and so on.  She told me her biggest fear was that she would put all of her heart and soul into it and then no one would ever really want to read it.

I told her that if the story of her Grandparents interested her then it just might very well interest someone else as well.  And while writing a book can be fun, the submitting to publishers portion of it can be a bit intimidating.  However, taking the chance can be worth it in the end, so I told her to go for it.  But I reminded her of one little fact that I have learned over the years, not just in writing but in every day life.  A story is only as good as the person who tells it.  So, if your story is the most exciting and amazing story that could ever be told, but you don't tell it well then no one will want to read it.  But, if you put your heart and soul into your work, you could probably make even the most boring story sound fantastic.

Author Spotlight Hosted by Jenny Gilliam             6-7-2009

Front_Cover_-_Sweet_RedemptionR02Jenny: Hi, Nicole. Why don’t you introduce yourself and tell us a little about you.

Nicole: I am a married mother of two who juggles that along with my day job of marketing, writing, reading, editing and of course, reading.

Jenny: What inspired you to write your first romance?

Nicole: Well it all started one starry night…okay just kidding.  This is what really happened…

I have always enjoyed reading and had a secret love of writing which I kept to myself, not even telling my husband. Thinking it was merely a ‘pipe dream’ I chose to not pursue what brought me such hapiness.  In the Fall of 2008 a story kept popping up into my mind. I wanted to sit down and put it all on paper but felt that it was futile. How many authors were out there pouring out their hearts in the written word only to be rejected time and again, I asked myself?  The recurring plot kept playing itself out in my mind. Finally I gave in. One day I sat at my computer and began writing what is now known as SWEET REDEMPTION. When I finally finished my novel I edited it within an inch of it’s life and submitted it to a handful of publishers.

Jenny: What’s currently on your iPod/mp3 player/cd player?

Nicole:  I have a wide array of music types on my iPod.  Let me give you just a handful of them to show you just how diverse my tastes are:  Motley Crue, Tim McGraw, Usher, James Ingram, Katy Perry, Kiss and George Strait.  Are you sensing the pattern here?  Well you’re right, there is absolutely no pattern.  I like almost all music.

Jenny: Describe a typical (or non-typical) writing day?

Nicole:  That’s actually kind of funny.  A non-typical day would be me sitting down and writing because I know I should.  That very rarely happens though, because when I start a story it usually takes off for me.  So a more typical writing day is me getting lost in what’s playing out in my head as I type it into my computer.  This is also usually the day that my husband will want my undivided attention.  Ah, but it is what it is.  We have learned to live with and tolerate each other’s interests and love and respect each other more for them.

Jenny: What’s the one question no one ever asks that you wish they would?

Nicole:  “What does it feel like to be doing what you truly love?”  And my answer would be, “Amazing!  I can’t believe I’ve been given the opportunities that I have editing.  They are titled LOVE KNOWS NO BOUNDARIES and INTIMATE PERSUASIONS.  At the time of this interview I have not submitted them for publishing yet, but hopefully you’ll see them soon!  (This is me crossing my fingers.)  In addition to that I do reviews occassionally for Rose Petal Reviews (http://www.rosepetalreviews.webs.com/).  And most recently I have started doing editing for one of my publishers.

Jenny: Which comes first–the plot or the characters?

Nicole: For me it’s always the plot first, then the characters sort of blossom from that.  I get an idea of what I want to write about and then I have to figure out the rest.  Which can be funny, because in my first book, SWEET REDEMPTION, I had written in a character that was just horrible.  But in it’s sequel, SWEET SALVATION, I really dove into who in this past year.  And the people/friends I have met along the way are just icing on the proverbial cake of it all.”

Jenny: What’s your favorite setting from one of your novels?

Nicole:  My favorite setting would be the gorgeous Craftsman style house that Rex and Shelby buy in SWEET SALVATION.

Jenny: What do you think makes the ideal heroine/hero?

Nicole:  To me the ideal heroine is someone that you can really like as a person.  I can’t stand a snotty heroine.  Someone that’s mad at the world all the time is unappealing to me.  I’ve read a few of those and they’re hard to like.  For me she has to be feminine, strong, independent but at the same time willing to give into her desires for that one man that she just can’t live without.

As for the hero, well of course he has to be down right gorgeous!  An incredible body, masculine features and rough and tumble.  The typical alpha male.  He needs to be strong enough both emotionally and physically so that he can take care of the heroine in every possible way.  But he also needs to be just a bit on the cocky side, confident in ALL of his abilities.  I’ve never liked a wishy washy man.

Jenny: What are you working on at the moment?

Nicole:  I actually have just finished two books that I have also recently finished she was and what made her who she was, and in the end you are left with no choice but to like her.

Jenny: Any new releases coming up?

Nicole:  Yes.  I have SWEET SALVATION, the sequel to SWEET REDEMPTION coming out sometime this summer, the date is still unknown at this time.  They are both through Hearts on Fire Books (http://www.heartsonfirebooks.com/).  And I have another book, SUDDEN DEVOTION, due to be released August 11, 2009 through Wild Horse Press (http://www.wildhorsepress.webs.com/).
